Librarians are reluctant to stock <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1416901949?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=artandlies-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=1416901949\">The Higher Power of Lucky<\/a><\/i>, a book that won the prestigious Newberry Award for children&#8217;s literature, because the word <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/02\/18\/books\/18newb.html?_r=3&amp;oref=slogin&amp;oref=slogin&amp;oref=slogin\">&#8220;scrotum&#8221; appears in the first sentence<\/a>. Of course, our delicate sensibilities can just as easily be corrupted by terminology for the female anatomy. A Florida theater changed its marquee to read &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/10965683\/detail.html\">The Hoohah Monologues<\/a>&#8221; after receiving complaints from local parents who lacked the maturity or parenting skills to respond to curious inquiries from their children about the meaning of the word &#8220;vagina&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t help but marvel that most American adults don&#8217;t resort to the oblique phrase &#8220;down there&#8221; when referring to their genitalia.
