I stumbled across this list enumerating the qualities of good blogs<\/a>. A couple highlights: <\/p>\n

Good blogs reflect focused obsessions.<\/strong> People start real blogs because they think about something a lot<\/em>.
\nMaybe even five things. But, their brain so overflows with curiosity
\nabout a family of topics that they can\u2019t stop reading and writing about
\nit. They make and consume smart forebrain porn. So: where do this
\nperson\u2019s obsessions take them?<\/b><\/p>\n

When I first started this blog, I wanted to make it all about fishnet stockings. But then I realized that there’s only so much you can say about fishnets (i.e. “those look HOT!”) before you start repeating yourself. So I decided that I needed to branch out in other directions. But even when I’m blogging about disability issues or Battlestar Galactica, I usually have fishnets on the brain. <\/p>\n

Another tidbit: <\/p>\n

Good blogs try<\/em>.<\/strong> I\u2019ve come to believe that
\ncreative life in the first-world comes down to those who try just a
\nlittle bit harder. Then, there\u2019s the other 98%. They\u2019re still eating
\nthe free continental breakfast over at FriendFeed. A good blog is
\nwritten by a blogger who thinks longer, works harder, and obsesses
\nmore. Ultimately, a good blogger tries<\/em>. That\u2019s why \u201cgood\u201d is getting rare.<\/b><\/p>\n

So that’s my problem. I might be compelled to try harder if I wasn’t always so damn distracted by persistent thoughts of women in fishnets. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
