But that five grand <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/10\/30\/us\/30insure.html?_r=2&amp;hp&amp;oref=slogin&amp;oref=slogin\">isn&#8217;t going to stretch as far if you&#8217;re a woman<\/a>. As the chart below illustrates, women already pay significantly more than men for individual health care coverage: <\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 800px;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/WWW.the19thfloor.net\/insureFull.jpg?resize=391%2C289\" width=\"391\" height=\"289\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Insurers justify this sex-based discrimination by arguing that women are more likely to receive check-ups and take prescription medications. In other words, ladies, it&#8217;s your own fault. If you could just learn to buck up and stoically ignore your medical issues like us manly dudes, you wouldn&#8217;t be facing this problem. <\/p>\n<p>The private insurance market is one of the few sectors in the American economy that is allowed to employ naked bias as a tool for profit.
