I&#8217;m feeling lazy, so here&#8217;s a poem I wrote a few years back.  I promise not to subject you to this kind of thing on a regular basis.<br \/>\n<strong> Flame<\/strong><br \/>\nLooking at me,<br \/>\nI&#8217;m not much.<br \/>\nThe body that curves<br \/>\nand twists like a slow river.<br \/>\nThe voice indistinct and muted,<br \/>\nbarely heard at a dinner party.<br \/>\nThe plastic tube disappearing into<br \/>\nthe hollow of my neck.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m the All-American Superhero.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m the Invisible Man.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m the Circus Freak.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m like a forgotten flame,<br \/>\nburning quietly in someone&#8217;s hearth.<br \/>\nAt times, I&#8217;m little more than an ember<br \/>\nlying among the ashes.<br \/>\nAnd I need the breath of another to<br \/>\ngive me life.<br \/>\nOther times, I&#8217;m a forest fire,<br \/>\npowerful and cunning and fast,<br \/>\nscorching the earth while old men<br \/>\nsleep in distant watchtowers.<br \/>\nFor now,<br \/>\nI&#8217;m content to sit on the end<br \/>\nof your candle, flickering<br \/>\nin the night breeze and casting<br \/>\na ribbon of shadow across your sleeping face.<br \/>\nAnd I&#8217;ll still be burning when you rise with the sun,<br \/>\nthe light coming through the window and<br \/>\nstreaming through your hair.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So I&#8217;m sitting here in the glow of my screen and trying to think of something to write.
