{"id":2511,"date":"2009-12-14T20:36:01","date_gmt":"2009-12-14T20:36:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the19thfloor.net\/?p=2511"},"modified":"2009-12-14T20:36:01","modified_gmt":"2009-12-14T20:36:01","slug":"the_big_egos_of","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/the19thfloor.net\/?p=2511","title":{"rendered":"The Big Egos Of Small Men"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Senator Lieberman has apparently decided that he&#8217;d rather be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talkingpointsmemo.com\/archives\/2009\/12\/flip-flop_of_shameless_proportions.php?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Talking-Points-Memo+%28Talking+Points+Memo%3A+by+Joshua+Micah+Marshall%29\">a spoiler than a hero <\/a>when it comes to passing health care reform. After nixing a public optiion with an option for states to opt out (which was already a compromise position), he has now decided that he can&#8217;t support the compromise of that compromise&#8211;letting people buy into Medicare. Lieberman is clearly more interested in exacting revenge on liberal Democrats than getting a bill passed, but the inescapable math of getting to sixty probably requires that he win this round. The Maine Republicans don&#8217;t show any signs of budging and reconciliation would be a messy, lengthy process that could result in a far less comprehensive bill.<\/p>\n<p>Passing this bill won&#8217;t be the end of health care reform. There will be opportunities to improve it in the years to come, but a bill needs to pass for that to happen.
