It&#8217;s still one of my favorite movies and it&#8217;s still a favorite topic of discussion among fellow film nerds. Case in point: this\u00a0excellent video that examines how Cuaron&#8217;s use of background imagery works in conjunction with the main story playing out in the foreground.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-woNlmVcdjc\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This movie has been on my mind as I&#8217;ve watched news stories about the refugees seeking better lives in Europe. The situation <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloombergview.com\/articles\/2015-09-09\/why-germany-welcomes-refugees\">isn&#8217;t quite as bleak<\/a> as what&#8217;s portrayed in the film, but the vile xenophobia on display <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/09\/12\/world\/europe\/images-of-mistreatment-of-migrants-in-hungary-prompt-investigations.html?_r=0\">in places like Hungary<\/a> isn&#8217;t far removed from it, either.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember that time when I couldn&#8217;t stop gushing about Children of Men?
