Straight outta Kafka, here’s a cheery story for the holiday season. You have to admire our highly trained airport security personnel. Good thing we federalized them, or imagine the pickle we’d be in.
Oh, and Trent Lott is complaining that he’s been victimized because he’s from Mississippi, conservative, and Christian. I guess he forgot to mention the whole racism/nostalgia for segregation thing. And who knew that Republicans could play the victim game? Granted, it’s a pretty pathetic attempt, but at least he’s trying.
Much to my surprise, it’s becoming more apparent that Trent Lott is heading for a big fall. I’d like to think that the GOP is doing some serious soul-searching regarding its checkered history on race relations, but that’s probably expecting too much. And let’s not forget that our beloved Attorney General (aka The Guy Poring over Your Library Card Records) has said some questionable things that have been conveniently forgotten. And yes, there are certainly bigoted Democrats as well. But the GOP has built much of its base by exploiting the subtle but undeniably powerful brand of racism found in much of rural and suburban America. And yet people are shocked, shocked I say, when a good ol’ boy like Lott lets down his guard and allows his true colors to shine. Please.
Two Towers had a boffo opening day, which pleases me. It’s been nominated for a Golden Globe as well. It probably won’t win, but it’s nice to see that the press has a bit of a geek streak.
I really considered skipping work and going to see The Two Towers today. Fortunately, duty won out over impulse. I’ll probably wait until next week and see it with my family.
Don’t have time to write much more, but here’s an amusing link.

I cleaned up the site and archived some of the older posts. Let me know if you have trouble finding anything.
I saw the latest Star Trek film last night with my friend Tim. It actually wasn’t bad, despite some of the reviews in the press. I think you have to be to be a bit of a fanboy to appreciate these films. They’re not great examples of moviemaking, but I can think of worse ways to waste two hours.
Still no snow here in Minneapolis. I’m not complaining much (wheelchairs and snow are not a match made in heaven), but everything just looks sort of brown and dreary. But it’s supposed to snow later this week.
If anyone is looking for a gift for your favorite webmaster, I’m kind of interested in the Sims Online. God knows I don’t need to spend more time on the computer, but I’m intrigued by the premise of this game. It’s been getting some attention in the media and I’m a sucker for hype. Besides, this game will let me realize my dream of living in a house with a lava lamp in every room.

News Flash: Republicans are still clueless. Yes, Mr. Lott, if only good ol’ Strom had been elected President and kept them coloreds in the kitchen and fields where they belong. And maybe the Jews wouldn’t have gotten control of Hollywood. Sheesh. Can we have a temporary ban on dumb, white, racist, male senators? I’m sure Senator Lott could find work somewhere else, like maybe a greeter at Wal-Mart. I’d suggest being a server at Shoney’s, but I think that fine restaurant chain is simply too classy for him.
I read this morning that there’s going to be another Mad Max film. Very cool. Road Warrior is one of my favorite films and I’m anxious to see what the plot is for this one. Just no Tina Turner, okay?

After much delay, my friend Erin and I are getting together tonight. She’s one of the few people from law school with whom I stay in touch. I (mostly) enjoyed law school, but it can be such a competitive environment. You’re alwas competing for grades, journal positions, summer jobs, jobs after graduation, and so on. Not the most conducive environment for bonding.
Still need to do my Christmas shopping. I usually do most of my shopping on-line. But I do enjoy clipping the occasional ankle at the mall.

I hope everyone has a pleasant and bountiful Thanksgiving. I’m not a big eater, but I do enjoy the occasional helping of mashed potatoes or stuffing. I usually don’t get to see my family at Thanksgiving; that’s usually saved for Christmas (a very secular holiday for the Siegel clan). So whether you’re alone or surrounded by dozens of screaming relatives, enjoy the day and don’t get too stressed by the impending madness of the holiday season.
I ventured out of my apartment for the first time in several days yesterday. It felt good to be back in the world again. Perhaps a trip to the movie theater is in order for this weekend.

I’m starting to heal up, but am still contagious, which means at least a couple more days in isolation. *sigh*
Watched Henry V last night; the Branagh version. Still one of my favorite Shakespeare plays. Branagh is a little too hammy, but the battle scenes at Agincourt are pretty stirring.

Life is funny sometimes. Funny like getting chicken pox when you’re 29. Just when I was getting over my cold, I got these weird little blemishes on my face and chest. The little bastards soon had a colony over my entire body, complete with strip malls and a couple Starbucks. But I’ve got them on the run now. Unfortunately, I can’t shave, so I’m starting to look like the Unabomber’s kid brother.
I’m BORED, Dear Reader! So send e-mail with suggestions on how to amuse myself until I can leave my apartment.
Peace,
Mark
Hey, I’m going to Mars! Well, kinda.
Got the Extended LOTR and Episode II DVDs in the mail today. Unfortunately, my DVD player died and I had to order a new one, which hasn’t arrived yet. But when it does, all Twin Cities geeks are invited to my house for a movie marathon. Costumes are encouraged.
Feeling a little better today.
Peace,
Mark
