After seeing Shakira on Letterman the other night, I felt a little better about life here on this crazy world. We may be fucking up the planetary climate and burdening our children with massive debt, but my goodness, what a hottie. Watching her for five minutes almost made me forget that our current government is hopelessly corrupt and that religious fanaticism is being passed off as legitimate science.
Sigh. Sometimes I wish I was more shallow. Things would be a lot more pleasant.

Good post. I, too, wish I was not so aware of everything that is going on in the country.
Republicans question others’ patriotism, even though they did everything they could to get out of going to war themselves. Yet we seem to care more when a reporter steps over the line in trying to expose this hypocrisy to us?
They say they believe in family values, but then they ridicule their opponents’ families and wives. Yet we still believe they are for values? Look at who they elect and put into power.
Republicans say they believe in family values, but then they actively work against their own families.
Republicans talk about traditional values, then they engage the nastiest campaigns our country has ever seen, creating a cynical deluded nation that is at a cultural war with itself. They don’t discuss community, and if they do it is only to win votes, because this country sure doesn’t feel much like a community anymore.
Republicans shout that religion shouldn’t matter when considering a Supreme Court nominee’s judicial views, but then sell their own candidates’ religion as a qualification.
They say that they have adopted liberal ideas, but then they advocate torture, governing in secret and abandoning our own people.
Nice Christian values, guys.
