From my Inbox:
Hi Mark,
We recently launched a free online community site for disabled people interested in meeting others…and we were hoping you’d take a look at our site, and if you like it, maybe mention us in your blog, or add a link?
Our site is available here:
Disabled Passions
http://www.disabledpassions.com
The idea is to make it easier for people with disabilities to find one another, and it’s completely free, so this isn’t a sales pitch.
I hope you like the site.
All the best,
Michael
PS. Since we’re completely free, we’re pretty much relying on word-of-mouth, and links from sites focused on the ‘Disabled’ community. Thanks again!

So there you go. Maybe someone out there will get lucky and invite me to the wedding. And now if you’ll excuse me, I have homework. Yes, Policy Fellows have homework. I need to finish Richard Florida’s The Rise of the Creative Class by Wednesday. Only 200 pages to go.

  1. Websites like DisabledPassions make me, I dunno, cringe. It seems to reinforce the stereotype that people with disabilities date, out of necessity or by preference, other people with disabilities. I am torn between the idea that the site promotes sharing “cultural identity” versus segregation. When I hear these topics, I am reminded of the debates surrounding interracial, interethnic, and interfaith relationships. Personally, when seeking dating opportunities, I look for potential matches based solely on personality, and I must admit, physical chemistry. True, when present, I have experienced challenges in past relationships in relation to interfaith, interracial, and “interability” aspects. However, I would not feel comfortable denying myself valuable diversity by using an all white “spiritual but not participating in organized religion” dating service. Just preliminary thoughts…
Oh, I was awestruck as to how many “disability” dating sites [http://www.google.com/search?q=disabled+dating+disabled] there are!

  4. I live in, Morgantown, WV and work part-time, three weekday morning’s making boxes. I’ve been doing this for five year’s. I’m interested in meeting a young lady, who understand’s my lifestyle, of living monthly on, Social Security, and my small by-weekly pay check. I enjoy going to movies, watching tv, surfing the net, eating out, nature walk’s, and maybe studying Wicca, if I have a partner. I’m 43, with a brain injury, that happened from a car accident in 1968.
