Yesterday, I had a contractor here to discuss flooring options for my condo. He was really pushing me to go with laminate because he said it would best resist scuffling from my wheelchair. I’m sure laminate looks fine, but I’m more inclined to go with a more eco-friendly material like bamboo. When I mentioned bamboo, he kind of poo-poohed it and said that it wouldn’t hold up. But everything I’ve read indicates that bamboo is quite durable. If you have bamboo floors in your own home, I’d be interested in hearing your views on the matter.

  1. Wow, that bamboo flooring looks nice. Perhaps you should show the contractor the article? I’m guessing he hasn’t really worked with it, I haven’t heard much about bamboo flooring before.

  2. The bamboo floor looks very nice. Stick with it. Say “whatever” to your contractor. 🙂

  3. Bamboo flooring is absolutely beautiful. I re-did the floors in my house and considered bamboo for the kitchen, but went with Pergo because it was CHEAP. There was a sale and I had several coupons. The rest of the hose has re-finished 100 year old maple flooring…the Pergo pretty much blends with the rest and scuffs/splotches wipe up with a squirt of Windex. I honestly am not sorry, but still think Bamboo is fabulous!

  4. Yeah, I’m inclined to agree that the problem might be more with your choice of contractor than your choice of flooring material! : )

  5. Bamboo is the way to go. And it’s your house anyway!

  6. Bamboo is a great, great floor… if you think scuffing is going to be a problem, why not try something handscraped. The distressed look is cool, plus you don’t have to worry so much about how your wheelchair will affect the way it looks. Got my floor from ifloor.com, they have a lot of colors to choose from. Plus they have more articles there that you could show your contractor to convince him that it really is an amazing product.
