The 35W bridge, a major commuting route that cuts through downtown Minneapolis, collapsed into the Mississippi River a little over an hour ago. No word on whether anyone was killed. I’ve driven over this bridge hundreds of times, particularly during the years I worked in Roseville (a suburb just north of Minneapolis). A local news station is showing dramatic footage of a huge section of roadway partially submerged in the river.

This is awful.

  One Response to “Disaster”

  1. It’s awful indeed. The first I heard of it was through The 19th Floor. You had a scoop Marc!
Are we lucky you were not riding on that old bridge! In Belgium, politicians were quick to state that this couldn’t happen here because bridges are checked every two years. How dare they say so. Also the bridge in Minneapolis had been checked and been found to be OK.
The news feels more like “local news” to me, because of this blog.
